OPENING KEYNOTE

Gary D. LeClair, Chairman – LeClairRyan

Mr. LeClair is co-founder and Chairman of LeClairRyan. LeClairRyan was founded in 1988 when Mr. LeClair and Dennis Ryan established a securities and venture capital legal boutique to address the special needs of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. Mr. LeClair’s practice continues to include the representation of emerging growth companies as securities and general counsel. He also represents numerous private and public industrial, consumer products, financial services, retail and other commercial businesses. He has been the lead attorney in more than 500 private and public debt and equity financings, joint ventures, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and other major domestic and international transactions.

Mr. LeClair has served as a director of various business entities, including a bank, an independent trust company, a residential developer, an ecommerce business, a venture fund and a retailer.

A believer in community involvement, Mr. LeClair has served on the board of many civic organizations, including the Richmond Venture Forum, the Greater Richmond Technology Council, the Virginia Council of CEOs, the Greater Richmond Chamber Foundation, The College of William and Mary, Richmond 2007 and Tuckahoe Sports. He has served as General Counsel for the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Richmond Partnership. A former college football player, he has coached youth baseball, soccer and basketball. He also is the former Head Coach of Western Wildcats Football.

DONNA NOBLE AWARD KEYNOTE

Doña Storey – President and CEO of Quality Technical Services, Inc
Doña Storey is the president and CEO of Quality Technical Services, Inc. (QTS), a woman-owned SDB and President of new venture, GOVtips. She has over 29 years of experience as a management consultant. In QTS, Ms. Storey has created a corporation which has been repeatedly selected to manage high-profile projects nationwide.   QTS offers comprehensive workplace consulting services by providing feasibility studies and managing expansions, reductions, reconfigurations of facilities and procurement of furniture for federal agencies.For such a small firm, QTS works with some very large customers, including:   JP Morgan Chase, Johnson & Johnson, and most major Federal agencies as well as various state and local governments.

Most recently she is providing expertise in the launching and growing of firms looking to enter into business with the Federal government. In addition, she is creator of GOVtips.biz, an online guide to success in federal procurement and author of Doing Business with the World’s Biggest Customer, the GOVtips book series.

For the past 15 years, Ms. Storey has played an active role in impacting public policy at both state and national levels. She and her company are repeatedly recognized with awards on the local, regional and national level. She has been appointed or elected to boards and other leadership positions in education and small business associations. As the 2007 National Co-Chair of the Procurement Committee for Women

Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), she assisted the organization in becoming more proficient at finding and making the most of available opportunities. To date, Ms. Storey has made numerous recommendations affecting the revision of federal regulations and has provided testimony for Congressionally appointed Commissions. In May 2009 she testified before the House Small Business Committee. She is also a popular speaker and has served on several government panels.

BREAKFAST KEYNOTE

David R. Lohr – Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA) and Executive Director and Treasurer – Virginia Biosciences Development Center.

Mr. Lohr is the current Chairman of the Board of NBIA and during his regular hours he serves as Executive Director and Treasurer of the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park (VBRP). At VBDC, Lohr works with start-up and early-stage companies assisting them with business planning and strategies, including accessing capital, marketing, and general business consultation. Lohr also serves as the Vice President of Business Development for VBRP.

Mr. Lohr is a director of an incubator start-up company The Bill Police, LLC and is a former director of incubator graduate companies Intelliject, LLC and kSERO Corporation. He is the former Vice President, Client Assistance for the BIO/START Biomedical Business Incubator in Cincinnati where he served in a similar capacity providing business assistance, pro bono professional services and entrepreneurial education to more than a dozen start-up companies. While at BIO/START, Lohr created an innovative business intern program in partnership with The Xavier University Williams College of Business and the Ewing Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

Mr. Lohr holds a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech (1976) and an MBA from the William’s College of Business at Xavier University (1999) in Cincinnati. He is a founding member and past Chairman of the Virginia Tech Chemical Engineering Department Advisory Board and is a member of the Virginia Tech College of Engineering Committee of 100. He is a Past President and former Director of the Virginia Business Incubation Association (VBIA), a Director of the Richmond Venture Forum, the Greater Richmond Technology Council (GRTC), SEBIO, and the Greater Richmond MathScience Innovation Center and a Visiting Associate Professor in Life Sciences, Engineering & Business at Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2008, Mr. Lohr received GRTC’s IBM Technology Leadership Award for his contributions in building the regional technology community in Richmond.

SESSION 1: LESSONS LEARNED – 2008 “FOUR KEYS TO INCUBATOR SUCCESS”

Jim Flowers – Director, VT KnowledgeWorks

Jim is now proudly approaching four decades as a senior executive and consultant to technology based companies, most recently as architect and Director of the VT KnowledgeWorks business acceleration program at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg, Virginia. He is the current Chair of the Virginia Business Incubation Association.

Jim has served two companies as President, both university technology spin-outs, one from the University of Texas at Austin, and the other from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Both were acquired by major software companies.

Jim currently serves locally as founding president of the Board of Sustainable Blacksburg, regionally as a Board Member of the NewVA Corridor Technology Council, and state-wide as president of the Board of the Virginia Business Incubation Association.

He received his BA from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and his MBA from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY.

Jim blogs at www.startwithmoxie.com , and his first book, Moxie and other fundamental entrepreneurial concepts, was published in 2009.

Susan Kelley Deusebio - Deputy Director, Hanover County Dept. of Economic Development

Ms. Deusebio has accumulated 20 years of experience in public sector economic development and more than 25 years of experience in marketing, business development and public relations.

Prior to joining Hanover as Deputy Director of Economic Development in 2002, she served as Director of Business Development for McKinney and Company, a full-service planning, design and construction firm in Ashland. As Deputy Director, Ms. Deusebio is responsible for business attraction efforts in Hanover along with general marketing activities. She also serves the county as needed on special committees.

From 1995 – 2000, Ms. Deusebio was a project manager with the Chesterfield County Department of Economic Development. While in Chesterfield, she was actively involved in the commercial site plan process, product development and project management for both new investments and existing industry. Ms. Deusebio was appointed by the school board to the Career Development Advisory Committee, and she served as a coordinator of the Virginia Community College-sponsored program, Virginia Works. The program is an annual initiative held at John Tyler Community College that brings industry leaders together with public education professionals to identify the education and training needs of the workforce of the future.

She is the current President of the Virginia Economic Developers Association (VEDA), and served as co-chair the first Governor’s Conference on Economic Development. She is also active in the Greater Richmond Association of Commercial Real Estate, where she served on the Board from 1999-2001, and was appointed to serve again from 2003-2005.

Nancy K. Parrish, Director – The Franklin Business Incubator

Ms. Parrish was hired as the Director of Small Business Development for the Franklin Southampton Economic Development, Inc. (FSEDI) in October 2007. As a part of her job responsibilities, she also handles management of The Franklin Business Incubator. In this position, Parrish has grown the occupancy rate of the Franklin Business Incubator from 72% to 90% and she has graduated two companies, with a third one on the horizon. She is also in the process of trying to complete the third floor build-out of the 40,000 square foot building. Parrish nominated the Franklin Business Incubator for the Virginia Economic Developers Association’s 2008 Community Economic Development Award and was the winner of this award for cities with a population of less than 15,000 for the state of Virginia. She was then eligible for this same award on the regional level and was again the recipient of Southern Economic Development Association’s 2008 Community Economic Development Award.

Prior to her employment with the FSEDI, Ms. Parrish was employed with the City of Franklin Public Schools as their Food Services Director for eight years and was with Union Camp Corporation (now International Paper) for over 27 years as a part of their sales team. Ms. Parrish has a B.S. from Radford University in Home Economics Education and Human Resources and a M.S. from Virginia Tech in Education and Administration. She also holds an A.S. degree in Supervisory Management from Paul D. Camp Community College.

SESSION 2: CASE STUDIES IN THE PLIGHT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Tiffani Underwood – Executive Director, West Piedmont Business Development Center
Ms. Underwood manages the small business incubator serving the City of Martinsville as well Henry, Franklin and Patrick Counties. She has held this position since May 2008. Previously, Ms. Underwood has held positions in Planning, Economic Development, Business Operations, Marketing and Public Relations. She also serves on several boards including the Virginia Business Incubation Association, Martinsville Uptown Revitalization Association, United Way, and the Charity League of Martinsville and Henry County.

Ms. Underwood holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the University of Mary Washington as well as an Associates Degree in Communication Design from Virginia Western. She is a native of Galax, Virginia and currently resides in Martinsville with her husband Carter and their two children – Finley and Camille.

Dr. Dexter Klock, Founder and CEO of CareData Trak (www.caredatatrak.com)

Dr. Klock has created and spearheaded the company's innovative and proven geriatric e-screening solution for the aging services industry. He continues to lead the company as consumers become more engaged in their healthcare and look to technologies to reduce time and escalating costs. Prior to founding CareData Trak, Klock has spent more than 20 years working with technology companies in a variety of leadership roles. Previous to his work in healthcare IT, Dr. Klock lead engineering groups in solar panel manufacturing and the commissioning of technologies at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, a world-renowned nuclear physics research facility. Dexter is also actively involved in Class A commercial real estate in the Washington DC Central Business District where he is involved in the management of several very prominent office buildings and hotels.

In every endeavor, Dexter has demonstrated success in providing vision and management discipline to organizations requiring turn-around leadership and growth. His track record shows that he is adept at envisioning the "big picture," practical in delivering results on the P&L, and skilled in developing winning teams. Dexter holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Haven in Connecticut, as well as both Master's and Doctorate of Science degrees in engineering management from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Alex Kosik, MD., President GRAViTONUS Inc. (www.gravitonus.com)

Dr. Kosik is a founder and co-owner of the GRAViTONUS Inc. is a US Virginia-based start-up company dedicated to bringing the next wave of accessibility solutions to the handicapped. Gravitonus has developed a device called the Alternative Computer Control Systems (ACCS) for a limited, immobile group of severely motor-impaired individuals. With the help of ACCS, a handicapped user can control a PC as effectively as with conventional means. ACCS is tool to self-realization and active life for the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) population.

Dr. Kosik earned is doctor of medicine degree with cum laude honors from Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry, Russia and is a PhD candidate in rehabilitative and enabling technologies. Alex conducts intensive research in the field of rehabilitation of people with SCI, confirmed with international publications, combining academic work with treating actual patients and lobbying for their rights in the Federal authorities and such multinational institutions as World Bank, IFC and UNO. He is a frequent guest on Russian TV, FM Radio and business newspapers; he is widely known in Russia for his efforts to improve the life of people with SCI.

Douglas B. Juanarena - President, GenTek Ventures (www.gentekventures.com) Mr. Juanarena is a serial entrepreneur responsible for developing and commercializing a variety of technologies and companies over his career.

Following graduation from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, with a BS in Electrical Engineering, he joined the NASA Langley Research Center in instrumentation development. He attended graduate school at George Washington University. In 1978, he left NASA and formed Pressure Systems Incorporated to produce instrumentation based on technology he helped develop while at NASA. In January 1996, Mr. Juanarena sold Pressure Systems to The Roxboro Group PLC of Cambridge, England, remaining as President/CEO until July of 2000. From 1998 to 2005 he has played a central role in the success of Luna Innovations as a board member and corporate advisor. In August of 2000, Mr. Juanarena founded Luna Technologies in Blacksburg, Virginia serving as its President and CEO. In 2006 Mr. Juanarena formed GenTek Ventures to help technology business raise private equity and structure strategic partnerships.

Mr. Juanarena has lectured and authored numerous technical papers and articles on pressure sensing and instrumentation. He holds two patents on pressure scanning and high accuracy pressure measurement.

Mr. Juanarena has served as a member of the board of directors of public and private technology companies, and has been actively involved in educational advisory boards at Virginia Polytechnic and State University and Christopher Newport University.

David Stone – President & CEO, Solid Stone Fabrics (www.solidstonefabrics.com)

Mr. Stone started Solid Stone Fabrics in 2003 in the basement of his home. The business moved into the Martinsville Business Development Center in 2004 where they operated until the company graduated in 2008. Solid Stone fabrics sources fabrics from all over the world for various end uses including specialty fabrics used in dance costumes, athletic wear, swimsuits and more. David Stone was awarded the 2006 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, given to an individual or company with perseverance and tenacity who successfully developed a new business, by the Martinsville Henry County Economic Development Corporation. In 2008, he received the Small and Minority Business Development Award after purchasing and renovating a 24,000 square foot facility in Uptown Martinsville while increasing sales by 31% during difficult economic times. The company has foiling and sublimation printing capabilities in house and can cut and sew finished garments as well. The company now has over 25 employees and has some very aggressive growth plans.

David is a graduate of Martinsville High School and of Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA with a BA in Political Science. He has been in textiles most of his career with various roles in sales and marketing management, brand management and general management. He enjoys building and preparing organizations to handle accelerated growth. He has had numerous positions with Kayser- Roth, Tultex, Reebok, Transitions for Health and the Pine Crest Corporation.

SESSION 3: UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS IN BUSINESS INCUBATION

William E. Bean – Director, Technology and Business Center, College of William & Mary
Mr. Bean graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in electrical engineering. He spent over 30 years in technology based organizations ranging from start-ups to Fortune 1000 companies. His responsibilities have included those of engineering, sales and marketing management, and general manager and president for divisions of John Fluke Manufacturing Company (USA and The Netherlands), Marconi Instruments (The Netherlands, France, and USA), Schlumberger Smart Cards, and Wandel & Golterman’s Automatic Test Equipment Division. He later formed his own consulting company, RB Associates, which specialized in serving small technology companies. He is currently the Director of the Technology and Business Center at the College of William & Mary.

Mr. Bean has served on several Boards of Directors, including the Virginia Business Incubator Association. He is on the Executive Committee of the Hampton Roads Technology Council (HRTC),

Chairs the HRTC Sensor Science & Technology Forum and the Hampton Roads Research Partnership’s Sensor Cluster Program. He also has been on the organizing committee for the SensorsGov and Sensors World conferences.

Shannon Blevins, Director of Economic Development, University of Virginia’s College at Wise
As a Southwest Virginia native with broad experience working with new and expanding businesses, Shannon leads the College’s economic outreach efforts. In doing so, she works to create opportunities for government, non-profit organizations, businesses, and higher education to work together to further the progress of the region.

As part of her role, Shannon also serves as the Executive Director for the Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center located in Lebanon, Virginia. UVa-Wise manages the facility on behalf of The Russell County Industrial Development Authority. The center works with the region’s emerging information technology sector and other businesses to provide customized training and technical/professional development programs.

Prior to joining the UVa-Wise team, Shannon served as a senior project manager with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance (VDBA). She joined VDBA’s Abingdon office in 2002 and for the last two years of her time with the department, Shannon served at the pleasure of the Governor in a special assignment. Her role was to coordinate state, regional and local efforts in support of the CGI and Northrop Grumman operations in Russell County.

She is an accomplished instructor, consultant and former director of customer service/operations. Ms. Blevins has extensive experience working with leading organizations in southwestern Virginia. She holds a masters degree in Business Management and Organizational Development from Averett University in Danville and a B.A. in Business and Public Administration from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. She lives in Wise County, Virginia with her husband, Dennis and two children, Connor and McKenna.

Carol W. Hamilton – Assistant Director for the JMU Center for Entrepreneurship

Ms. Hamilton is the Assistant Director for the JMU Center for Entrepreneurship and has been a Management Lecturer in the JMU College of Business since 2002. She has taught COB 202 Interpersonal Skills, COB 300 Integrated Functional Systems, COB 487 Strategic Management and MGT 472 Venture Creation at JMU. Carol earned her MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurship at JMU in 1997. She then worked as a management analyst for the JMU Small Business Development Center. In 1999, she co-founded Valley Microenterprise Alliance, a local non-profit training and lending program. She co-authored a microenterprise curriculum, Blueprint for Business Success, which was sold to a national microenterprise program and a Simple Solutions business plan guide and workbook that has been used in microenterprise programs across the country. Carol began her career with IBM following graduation from Clemson University with a B.S. degree in Administrative Management in 1980.

Keith B. Segerson – Managing Director of the Mason Enterprise Center, George Mason University

Mr. Segerson has an extensive professional background in business development, business incubation/acceleration, and in the high-tech market having overseen large and diverse domestic and international information technology operations and business incubator/accelerators in both corporate and higher education environments. He was born in Madrid, Spain; raised in the mid-west section of the United States; lived and worked in Houston, Texas; and now resides and works in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Keith received his BBA degree in Marketing & Management from Ohio University and went on to receive graduate degrees from Houston Baptist University (MS in Computer Science Management) and from George Mason University (MS in Information Technology Management.) He sits on several Boards and is proud of his involvement on the Northern Virginia Salvation Army Board of Advisors; Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce Board; Manassas Center for the Arts Board; Community Development Corporation Board; Fiesta Foundation Board and is a past Commander of the Northern Virginia Sail & Power Squadron (part of the United States Power Squadron, which promotes safe boating through education.) Mr. Segerson is the Managing Director of the Mason Enterprise Center - an outreach program of George Mason University’s School of Public Policy - providing valuable business assistance consulting and training services to over 10,000 business entrepreneurs annually from 37 different physical locations across Virginia. Keith has traveled extensively throughout the world (Central and Eastern Europe, Ireland, Canada, Spain, Vietnam, China, Russia, South Korea,

Japan, Mexico, India and Chile) as well as to most of the 48 contiguous United States and Hawaii.

Van R. Wood, Ph.D, Professor of International Marketing, Philip Morris Chair in International Business - VCU
Dr. Wood is a specialist in international business having spent over 25 years involved in global marketing and trade. Dr. Wood was educated at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (spending one year as an officer aboard a U.S. merchant vessel with port destinations of Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong), the University of Washington (B.A. - Marketing 1973, M.B.A. - International Business 1975), and the University of Oregon (Ph.D. - International Marketing 1982). He has traveled and worked in over ninety countries.

His experience in the field of international business began with his work in Chile from 1975 through 1979, where his association with the firm CIDEME led to extensive international business with organizations headquartered in the U.S., Europe, Japan, Middle East, and Latin America.

Dr. Wood spent 12 years at Texas Tech University (1982 - 1994) where he developed international programs, conducted international research, and guided seminars on global business strategies. He has consulted and presented his work in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Russia and North and South America.

He accepted the Philip Morris Endowed Chair in International Business at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 1994, where today he continues his international work. He has produced and moderated 15 International Forums, most recently; 2003 – Profiling the 21st Century Global Business Leader; 2004 - The Seven Global Revolutions That Will Shape The Future; 2005 – Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century: Keys to Global Economic and Social Development; 2006 – The Changing Face of Risk: Impact on the Global Business Environment; 2007 – The Role of “Community” in Sustaining Global Competitiveness; and 2008 - Re-Launching Brand America; 2009 - The Third Great Power Shift in Modern History: The Post Western World as Globalization Gains Depth and Breadth).

Dr. Wood’s research has been published in numerous scholarly and practitioner focused journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of International Business Studies, International Marketing Review, and the IIE Networker (Institute of International Education – Bi-annual Journal for International Education Professionals).

SESSION 4: FINANCING BUSINESS START-UPS

Andrea Alms, President, Spinner Technologies
Ms. Alms is responsible for developing technology businesses. She assisted in the creation of Spinner Technologies as a for-profit subsidiary of the University of Virginia Patent Foundation; Spinner Technologies helps offers numerous business services to University of Virginia scientists and engineers as they bring their research to the marketplace through the creation of new ventures. She works closely with Spinner Technologies clients and portfolio companies to provide early-stage business services, such as company formation, referrals, business advice, facilities access and financial networking. As the member companies' businesses evolve and expand, Ms. Alms custom designs business and financial services tailored to the evolving needs of such companies.

In an effort to address some of these changing needs, Ms. Alms led the development of the Jefferson Corner Group (JCG), a member-managed investment angel fund. JCG is designed to capitalize on local companies based on UVA. inventions and other promising companies in Charlottesville and other areas.

Prior to joining Spinner Technologies, she served as a licensing associate at the UVA. Patent Foundation, where she assessed technologies for marketability and patentability and was responsible for identifying potential licensees as well as drafting and negotiating licensing contracts.

Ms. Alms’ has a Master of Science degree and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Wellesley College and a M.B.A. from Averett University.

Brian Carney, Associate, Harbert Management Corporation
Before joining HMC in 2007, Mr. Carney was an associate with Morgan Stanley Venture Partners where he evaluated and executed healthcare investment opportunities and was a financial analyst in Morgan Stanley's Healthcare Investment Banking Group. Mr. Carney holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Washington & Lee University.

John R. Gobble IV – Senior Vice President, Suntrust Bank
Mr. Gobble runs the commercial banking group for SunTrust in Charlottesville and the Shenandoah Valley. After graduating from University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, he has worked for SunTrust in commercial banking in excess of eleven years. Attending night school, John obtained his Masters in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University. Within SunTrust, John has advanced within the bank working as a junior analyst, senior analyst, commercial relationship manager and team leader.

SESSION 5: FURTHERING THE ART OF BUSINESS INCUBATION

Daniel Girouard – Asset Manager, City of Hampton

Daniel Girouard has worked for the past twenty years in the field of community and economic development and has been employed by state, county and municipal governments, and as a corporate relocation consultant with Ernst & Young. Mr. Girouard has worked in the states of Colorado, Florida, Texas and Virginia. He has honed his expertise in the areas of economic development, comprehensive and strategic planning, development an implementation of state and local programs, program management and analysis, tax increment financing, and the creation of business assistance centers to further entrepreneurial development. Mr. Girouard has undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Economics from the University of Northern Colorado and his Masters in Urban and Regional Planning with an emphasis in Economic Development from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Judy Barral – Director, Fairfax Innovation Center George Mason University, School of Public Policy

Judy Barral was hired as the Director of the small business incubator program at George Mason University in January, 2004. In this position, Barral has grown the client list from 23 to 70 incubator clients, graduating 16 companies in 4 years and expanding the incubator space to 30,000 square feet.

Prior to this, Barral was Senior Project Manager for 10 years at Westar Group of Washington DC, an international privately held investment firm. Barral analyzed business opportunities and helped launch several new ventures, both in the United States and abroad.

Barral also spent several years with two French organizations, Arianespace and the LeClerc Group, setting up offices in Washington for their expansion efforts in the US.

After graduating from the University of Maryland, Barral lived in France for 10 years, where she earned a business degree in Wine Marketing in Bordeaux. Her proudest professional accomplishment during this period was selling advertising space to French businesses, known for their deep distrust of all things marketing.

Barral is active in many community organizations and professional activities, including Leadership Fairfax, and serves on the board of the Business Finance Group.

Glen C. Sink – Executive Director, Center and Council for Rural Virginia

Glen is Executive Director of the Center and Council for Rural Virginia, a coalition of rural organizations collaborating and advocating for rural issues, and communities. He has extensive administrative and executive leadership at Dairymen, Inc., a national marketing cooperative, and The Atlantic Rural Exposition, Inc. and the State Fair of Virginia, the states largest educational and entertainment venue. He is founder and principal of CastingCares, LLC, a company that designs customer service and care solutions for businesses and educational events.

Glen serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Economic Bridge, Inc. and also is a Charter Member and past Chairman of the Virginia Rural Leadership Development Foundation. He is past chairman of the Virginia Agribusiness Council and currently a member of the Commonwealth’s Broadband Roundtable.

As a mentor and/or collaborator, Glen has a passion for leading teams to create and produce industry-wide trade exhibitions as educational events and connecting people and organizations to produce innovative and competitive consumer products and programs. He is a steadfast proponent and advocate on the behalf of youth and education throughout Virginia and is on the Board of Directors for Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom.

SESSION 6: ECONOMIC GARDENING – ENGAGING YOUR COMMUNITY

Linda Hutson Green – President, Dan River Development Center

Linda Hutson Green serves as President of the Dan River Business Development Center, a local incubator that provides hosting and support of entrepreneurial businesses. She brings experience as the Director for Federal Funding and Entrepreneurship with the Center for Innovative Technology, where she also served terms as Director of Manufacturing and Regional Technology Transfer. Green also brings private sector experience as a Quality Engineer with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and has served for the Governor as Executive Director for the Virginia Research and Technology Advisory Commission. She has significant experience in reviewing business plans, quality and performance standards, and is a frequent facilitator for strategic and transitional plans due to the diversity of her work and educational experience. A Certified Quality Engineer, Green has a MBA from Duke University and undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Management Science, and a Minor in Computer Science from Averett University.

Erik R. Pages - President and Founder of EntreWorks Consulting

EntreWorks Consulting is an economic development consulting and policy development firm focused on helping communities and organizations achieve their entrepreneurial potential. EntreWorks works with a diverse base of clients from across the US. These customers all share a commitment to innovative economic development strategies that build wealth and build communities. Since its founding, EntreWorks has worked with customers in forty states and overseas.

He previously served as Policy Director for the Kauffman Foundation-sponsored National Commission on Entrepreneurship (NCOE), where he directed the Commission's research and policy operations. Dr. Pages has also held senior positions at the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA), where he helped lead efforts to assist communities affected by military base closings and defense plant shutdowns.

He has worked on Capitol Hill, and was an official advisor to the 1995 White House Conference on Small Business. He is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness, the RUPRI Center for Rural Entrepreneurship, and serves on the Arlington County (VA) Economic Development Commission.

He received his Ph.D. from Georgetown University, where he has served as an Adjunct Professor. He also holds degrees from Dickinson College (Phi Beta Kappa) and the University of Pittsburgh. He has written and published widely on business trends, economic development, technology policy, and national security policy. His work has been featured in national and international media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, USA Today, and National Public Radio. A native of Reading, PA, he now resides with his family in Arlington, VA.
